19 Parliament, appoint Sir Henry Pottinger, a Baronet of our United Kingdom, a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, and a Major General in the Service of the East India Company, to be Chief Superintendent of the Trade of Our Subjects to and from the Dominions of the Emperor of China, for the purpose of protecting & promoting such trade.
And Whereas, considering the Distance of the said China from Our United Kingdom, it is expedient to provide for the Office of Chief Superintendent of the Trade of Our Subjects to and from the Dominions of the Emperor of China, becoming vacant by the death, or resignation of the said Sir Henry Pottinger, or of the Person holding the Office of such Chief Superintendent by a Commission to him specially granted by Us, or becoming vacant from any other Cause; We accordingly appoint
